Composition
In my quest for better photography, I have been reading up on Composition. The book I’m trying to learn more from at the moment is ‘Digital Photography Masterclass’ by Tom Ang. I’ve had it for a couple of years now, and it seems a very good book. Anyway, I thought I’d share a few of my efforts this week.
This first photo was taken over Upton Heath yesterday. I was actually looking at the reflections, but tried hard to think about the composition as well.
These next two photos were taken at Upton Country Park, on the outskirts of Poole, this morning. It was overcast at first, and I was just walking round trying to look at things from a new perspective. But then the sun came out in the east, but there were still dark clouds in the west, so it made for some good landscape photography…
This is a tree I photograph from time to time: I thought that the light was good on it this morning, plus, you can see the contrast in the sky looking in the opposite direction to the two previous photos.
Finally, I loved the light and shadow on this gate. The photo is cropped to an odd size: partly because I wanted to exclude the passing cars on the main road in the background, and partly because I liked the final effect.
Overall, I was pleased with today’s efforts; especially as I hadn’t taken the DSLR but only had my small Ixus.

Great lines and shadows with the fence imagery. I think the cropping is excellent – perfect composition.
