Since I’m going to be a bit busy next weekend I invited Dad and Pat over for an early birthday lunch for Chris today (his birthday is in just over a week’s time). Yesterday I baked a cake to have with our tea in the afternoon, and this morning I filled and decorated it. The cake is a Spiced Whole Orange Cake and is a Mary Berry recipe (she recently demonstrated it on the Great British Bake Off Masterclass programme). This is the result.
I have to say that it is a very scrummy cake, and tastes a bit like carrot cake, especially with the orange flavoured marscapone butter cream filling.
For lunch we had Jamaican Pot Roast (beef), followed by a steamed golden syrup pudding, all of which went down very well.
Meanwhile Max took advantage of Pat’s presence and settled himself down on the sofa next to her in order to get a bit of a fuss made of him. As you can see, he was in seventh heaven.
Anyone would think we never spoil him.
