Settling in at Deerpark

Tuesday 19th November 2013

I didn’t get much sleep last night. I was in the upstairs bedroom with Max and was too hot (heat rises, so the bedroom was a bit too warm for me). On top of that Jez couldn’t settle. She kept wandering round – on wooden floors – up and down stairs – clackety, clackety, clack, clack. So I didn’t get much sleep at all. Chris, on the other hand, slept like a log.

Before I go onto what we got up to today, I thought I’d share a few photos of the cabin. It is actually the most basic of those available, but we felt it was all we needed (we didn’t want a hot tub in November).

So this is the upstairs bedroom (which had an en suite bathroom).

And this the downstairs twin room.

At 10am we walked down to The Retreat (the office/shop/cafe) for a duck race. Here’s the ducks starting off in the stream.

Of course, Max wanted to join in.

After that we went for a walk in Deerpark Forest.

Although once again the last past of the route was closed for Forestry Commission works.

Then it was back to the cabin to relax.

Later in the afternoon we went for a shorter walk around the park of the forest the cabins are in, before settling in for the night. We only had 5 channels on the TV, but Chris didn’t care as there was football on, so he was happy.

    • Hi Dave. It’s a great place to take the dogs, isn’t it? As you will see, we had very mixed weather, but we still managed to enjoy our break. We’ll certainly be looking to go back there sometime next year. I’d quite like to try their site in the Forest of Dean too.
I hope Finney is continuing to improve. Max is recovering very well, although we have to wait for the results of the biopsy on his thyroid.
