Monday morning and back to Upton Heath

Monday 5th May 2014

It was a bank holiday here in England today, but they don’t tend to mean much to us (other than there are usually more people around) as we don’t go out to work. So, as is normal on a Monday, we went to Upton Heath for our walk. Today, as for the past couple of weeks, Chris drove us over and dropped us off, then we walked around the lower heath before walking home via Creekmoor Ponds. And we needed to come home via the ponds today as Max had found some nice dried horse poop to roll in on the heath so needed a good wash off.

There isn’t much to report from the walk itself. Jez was very slow to start off with and it looked like the walk could take us a couple of hours again. When we got to Max’s favourite pond Jez waded in to cool down and have a drink, then bizarrely fell over on the flat, wet sandy soil as she was walking out of the water. I was really worried, but she seemed none the worse for wear. This photo was taken a couple on minutes later. Her head is down as she is investigating that piece of wood that another dog has just dropped, but you can just make out the sand on her legs and side where she fell.

As we left the heath Jez had to have a lie down at the side of the road, so we rested for a few minutes until she decided to walk on.

Then, as I said, we came back via Creekmoor Ponds, where I spotted this young Rowan tree with the sun dappling it’s leaves, growing in amongst the dark holly.

And lastly, Max has his ‘bath’, while Jez has a quick paddle.

So my dogs might have been wet when I got them home, but at least they were relatively clean.

Dad and Pat came to lunch and afterwards we had a stroll along the Roman Road.
