A winter solstice walk in Wareham Forest

Sunday 21st December 2014

In celebration of the fact that the days are going to get longer again from today we went for a walk around the Sika Trail in Wareham Forest. There was fine rain as we left home and drove to Wareham, but it stopped and the weather brightened up a little as we got there. Nevertheless it was still pretty overcast and cloudy.

With so much water around Max was a happy dog. Here he is hiding in a water-filled ditch.

And in one of his favourite pools along the bottom path leading to the Gruffalo Pool.

Jez came too today, and I managed to get this close up of her.

Although there were still puddles around I was surprised that it wasn’t wetter there. There seemed to be less water than there is on the heaths around here. This was the path leading to the Gruffalo Pool.

But as ever at this time of year, what little sun there was started to go down before we got back to the car, leaving just a bleak skyline.

So it was home to a cup of hot chocolate and a warm bath before dinner.

A year ago today

Looks like we’d had a storm. It was pretty wet and there was a tree down on Upton Heath.
