About me and this blog

I have been blogging for several years now and normally include quite a lot of photographs in my blog.  I thought that it would be nice to start a photo blog though.  The photos in these pages will not necessarily be high quality, although some of them might be.  Rather they will be of things that I see as I go about my normal day.  On occasions the subject matter will be of something that catches my eye and that I want to photograph.  In most cases though the photos will be more by way of snaps, where the important thing is the subject matter that I want to comment on or simply a record of things that are going on in my life.

I am not a professional photographer (as will become apparent), and I’m not even sure that you could call me an amateur photographer.  I have been taking photos since I was 4 years old and do so because I enjoy it.  I have never been to classes on photography and do not belong to a photographic society (mainly because I do not feel I am good enough).  I do take inspiration from books and from looking at others’ photos, though, and as a result feel that my photography has improved over the past few years.  If you would like to see more of my photos they can be found on Flickr where I post as Julia Livesey.

A bit about me: I am in my 50s and live in Poole, Dorset (UK) with my husband and 2 dogs.  I took early retirement when I was made redundant in 2007 so theoretically have plenty of spare time on my hands.  The dogs seem to take up an inordinate amount of that spare time, however.  I walk them at least once a day, so there will be a lot of photos from our walks.

I hope that you enjoy looking at my Photo blog.

  1. Hi Julie Great pictures of the local area and interesting blog. I publish the Canford Heath and Creekmoor Link Community Magazines, would you consider contributing a blog and photographs of the either areas for our readers, I’m sure they would love to see them. Leaved me a message on Facebook if you would like a chat.

    • Thanks. I said 4 but it might have been 5 yrs old. My Dad was an amateur photographer, and in those days I was using a camera where you had to take separate light reading and set everything manually. I still have my first photo, but its a bit blurred and shakey!

  2. I think your photos are wonderful! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing them. Since I cannot get to the UK as often as I wish I could, these photos will take me there in spirit.

  3. Just popped over to say many thanks for the follow on my own wee blog it is really appreciated and please feel free to make comment and add suggestions. We holidayed in Dorset last year with some of my family that live in the UK. Now to see if I recognise any scenes, MM 🍀

    • Thank you for coming and checking me out. I love your photos. If you want to know where any of mine are taken they are normally geotagged, so just click on them to go over to Flickr (assuming, of course, that Flickr hasn’t made another of its ill-thought out changes and you can still see photos on a map there).

  4. I agree that you have a very good eye to see great details in nature and everywhere, and good stories to go with it. I enjoy your blog very much and I think that I was trying to create something similar with my blog of my immediate area, but which has grown to write ups of further afield. Looking forward to more of your blog.
